Awaken the Horse People (ATHP) is a project that offers both practical tools and original, creative media to inspire people of european heritage to answer the critical questions of who we are and where we come from.
The insight offered in these answers can be used to unsettle ourselves from the Indigenous lands we may occupy and instead reawaken relationship with the lands, peoples, and sacred ways of life that belong to us through our european ancestors.
Awakening these relationships can provide pathways to heal historic traumas, make reconciliation possible with others harmed by our lost connection, and reveal knowledge of how we can return to inter-dependence with Mother Earth in the face of onrushing climate change. We embrace the Indigenous understanding that we must: walk backwards into the future.
ATHP is committed to freely sharing the understandings we’ve learned over the last twenty years, engaging our peers through an expanding array of practical tools and creative media including art, video, podcasts, blog articles, skill-shares, and other means.
Since starting ATHP five years ago, we’ve been equally excited and humbled by our project’s affect on others. Our resources have been used in academic settings, as inspiration for personal growth and community activism, and have even inspired people to return to their ancestral homes in Europe!
You are invited to join us on this most amazing adventure to reawaken ourselves! ATHP will share the tools that have worked for others, and connect you with people who are also turning towards what’s alive through these movements. We benefit by communicating with each other so we can learn from one another and minimize the harm in mistakes we will surely make. We also need to ensure we are not stepping on our own relatives like the Euskadi (Basque), Sorbs and Sami who are fighting to preserve their own existing Indigenous cultures on the European continent.
